Limited Heat

So, I've started to take it easy on heat tools. This summer I've kind of gotten used to not styling my hair as much. I didn't really start to do this for the health of my hair. The only reason that I laid off on the heat, was because it's so hot outside and my hair is so thick that it would be a torturous process. So, to make styling my hair a bit easier, I would just go longer between washes. I would wait like 4-5 days before washing my hair again, and I would only use heat tools on wash day.

Now, I've been letting my hair air-dry with just some gel and leave-in conditioner. Since my hair is naturally curly, I just put braids in my hair every night to keep my curls in-tack for the next day. This has been working brilliantly.

I think I'm going to stick with my naturally curly locks and only use heat tools on special occasions. I kind of already mapped out the rest of the year, and it looks like I'll just be using heat tools five times more in 2013.

Anyways, I thought I would share this with you. Cutting back on the heat tools will really help my hair to look less damaged and a lot healthier, making my hair look like it's growing longer.

To combat even more damage, I've been starting to wear "protective hairstyles" (i.e. braids, buns, and so forth) on days three, and four. This will help to not only keep my hair to keep away from possible damage, but it will also get my hair out of the way and will help me to go further between washes.

Until next time.

Hair Care Routine

Alright her goes...

Shampoo: Right not, I'm using the John Frieda Radiant Red shampoo. I have brown hair with some red highlights. So, when I use this shampoo, it brings out the red more. I have nothing to really complain about with this shampoo. It does the job really well. It really does help to make my dark brown hair a bit lighter by bringing out the red bits in it, so I love that! This shampoo also cleans really well without making my hair feel like it's complete dry.

Conditioner: I'm using the John Frieda Radiant Red conditioner. It's whatever. It hydrates, so I like it. There's nothing else to really say about it.

Hair Mask: I'm currently using a hydrating mask from L'oreal. It smells amazing, and really nourishes my hair. It leaves my hair soft and replenished! I love it!

Leave-in Conditioner: Garnier Fructis Sleek leave-in conditioner. This really helps to keep frizz at bay. I love the scent of it as well. I also dilute it in water, put it in a spray bottle and use it as a daily leave-in. I use this concoction to revive my hair throughout the day.

Oils: I use coconut oil to de-frizz and treat my hair when needed. I also do a warm olive oil mask once a month.

So, those are all the products that I use. I don't wash my hair too often, I wash it about every 3-5 days. When I leave my hair naturally curly, I just braid my hair to keep my curls in-tack.

The Beginning

Hello,
Welcome to my blog! This is all about my hair growth process. I thought it would be kind of fun to document the journey of growing out my locks to my hip.

To give a little background history on my hair...
I have coarse and curly brown hair. My hair is quite thick as well, so when left unkempt, my coarse and thick hair can be quite unruly to say the least.
The last time I had a real hair cut was about two years ago. I had it cut about at my chin right after I graduated from high school. About a month later, I was obsessed with long hair and decided that I would grow it out. Since then, I've had trims here and there, but no chops! Now, my hair is about four inches past bra strap length.

My hair is really healthy at the moment. It's pretty much been healthy all of my life. I do treat it well, and have always really babied it. I have been using heat quite often, recently anyways, but I do wear my hair naturally quite often. I'm going to stop using heat, however, just so that my hair can have the least amount of damage as I grow it out. I will use heat tools for special occasions.

So, for my blog, I just want to document this process. I might post some photos of my hair at some point. Also, I will be talking about all the products that I've been using. I usually change up products once they're through, so I'll be able to review quite a few products on here. That's all for now. I'll write another post about my hair care routine next.
